Housing
Housing is available throughout the AUC area, usually in apartments or condos. There are some private residences available, usually in areas that require you to have a car to drive to the university. Most of the available rentals are 1 to 2 bedrooms, with some 3 bedrooms. Most of the apartments on the AUC list are within walking distance of the university. We recommend that you sign up with our Sponsor program, so a spouse here on the island can help you in locating a suitable place to live. This is especially important if you are not able to visit the island before you move here.
You will want to consider carefully what your budget is (most 1 bedrooms range from $1000-1500/month), if you want A/C, the laundry situation, a place that will take pets, etc. Keep in mind too that the average utilities (electric & water) bill ranges from $60-200/month depending on the place and how much you run the A/C. Internet can be about $50-70/month and cable $30-60 (some of the students/families have chosen to own cable boxes. Though this does provide free cable, this method involves piracy and is illegal. The SO does not condone or suggest this method in any manner).
The AUC office maintains a current housing list of available rentals for anyone interested. To obtain a copy of the list, you need to send an email to housing@aucmed.edu with the subject line: Housing List.
