Getting Here
St Maarten is one of the main hubs of the Caribbean and has a large airport with many flights daily to and from the United States and Canada. Princess Juliana International Airport is located on the Dutch side just a short 10 minute drive from campus. There is also a small, private airport on the French side but it is not used for commercial flights. When doing flight searches, make sure you use the airport code SXM for the correct airport. Once you arrive, you can take a cab to your apartment or you can arrange with your sponsor or another spouse to pick you up if possible.
Some students have chosen to take a cruise to the island instead of flying. Depending on your time and financial abilities this could be a nice way to vacation before starting medical school or after wrapping up school. Check with individual cruise lines regarding their policies of getting off/on at an island in the middle of a cruise. Another benefit is that luggage is not as limited. This is not the typical method of traveling to the island for students, but it is an option.
